George Kouvakis
about
He was born in Thessaloniki in 1946. He came in touch with art at a very young age, since his mother’s family was very active with it. In the early 60’s he started painting systematically, while taking drawing lessons.
He exhibited his work for the first time in 1978 in Thessaloniki. His painting is mainly a painting of personal pursuits in various stylistic directions. From his early work he presents documentary and abstract elements, as well as geometric themes. His favorite materials are mainly specially processed paper, acrylics and gauze. His subjects are anthropocentric but also abstract. Large sections of his work are his trunks, landscapes, portrait forms, and Lud, his toys.
He has presented his work in 22 solo exhibitions in Athens and Thessaloniki, while at the same time he has participated in many group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. His work is in the National Gallery, the Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, the State Museum of Contemporary Art, the Ministry of Culture, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Florina, the European Cultural Center of Delphi, the Municipal Gallery of Thessaloniki and in large private collections.
